Protected Greenspace – Nothing is more iconic in Caledon than its beautiful and diverse greenspaces. I will champion efforts to protect Caledon’s natural assets as they need to be preserved for our community’s future generations. Ward 1 is a jewel at the top of the Region of Peel. How we preserve the unique flora, fauna and geographical features of Caledon will serve as our legacy. Let’s make it a good one!
Community Strategies – Many of the villages, hamlets and neighbourhoods of Ward 1 are isolated geographically, but still need to be treated as part of Caledon. It is important to connect with these communities, identify common problems, and bring them forward to council together to be efficient, effective and practical with your tax dollars. Ward 1 needs to combine forces to bring light to our needs and wants, and to gain collaboration and support from the rest of the town.
Community Road Safety – Every community in Caledon is concerned about reckless driving on our neighbourhood streets, rural routes and, highways. While efforts have been made to mitigate the issues of street racing, increased truck traffic and careless driving, more work needs to be done. Highway 10 is one of the most problematic routes in Ward 1 and continues to require special attention. A continuation of persistent advocacy to the MTO for help will be necessary to make the necessary changes. Concepts like a bypass around Caledon Village will be needed to remove the current dragstrip and return the village to the taxpayers. These problems , if not addressesd, will not improve as development increases around us.
Recreational Services – Caledon has a vast geography, with many Hamlets and Villages of Ward 1 left underserviced when it comes to recreational services. While Caledon has a limited tax base, we need to explore all possible avenues and partnerships to ensure that our rural community has reasonable access to facilities and greenspace that promote healthy lifestyles.
Internet Access – While council has helped bring more internet access through the S.W.I.F.T. initiative, more needs to be done, and soon. Parts of Caledon are still far behind on internet access – this gap will only increase as our dependence on online services increases, and technologies become more sophisticated. Businesses, education programs and real estate prices depend on homes having reasonable access to the internet. I will support continued efforts and initiatives which will help solve this problem.
